Description

Estimating how much of a particular chemical is released to the environment is key to assessing likely levels of exposure and risk to humans and the environment. Such estimates are often based on very general information due to a lack of specific data. This project aims to improve the accuracy of estimates of chemical releases. Existing EU and national databases will be evaluated, and improved estimation methods developed jointly with the European Chemicals Bureau, EU and national authorities, OECD and industry. These will then be compared with actual monitoring data. The resulting information will be useful in assessing the risks posed by individual chemicals, as required under EU legislation.
