The updated Bioaccumulation Assessment Tool (BAT) Version 2.1 is now available for free download. This new release delivers key scientific and functional improvements to strengthen bioaccumulation assessments and support regulatory and research needs. Developed with funding from Cefic‑LRI and Concawe, the updated BAT integrates laboratory and field data with modern New Approach Methods, offering a more robust and transparent basis for evaluating bioaccumulation potential in aquatic and air-breathing organisms.
Updates among other revisions include:
- Physical-chemical property input expansion
- Chemical uptake efficiency calculations
- Specific consideration of particulate organic matter (POM) and dissolved organic matter (DOM) in water
- Updates and additions to specific organisms/compartments
- Alignment of calculations with the BET in EAS-E Suite.
- Updates to In Vitro and in vitro-in vivo (IVIVE) study input sheets and calculations
- Ionisable Organic Chemicals (IOCs)
A troubleshooting guide is also available to assist users during installation.
For early‑stage screening, BAT’s modelling approach is also accessible through the Bioaccumulation Estimation Tool (BET) in the freely available Exposure And Safety Estimation (EAS‑E) Suite, enabling rapid evaluations when measurement data are limited.
